I was looking at Byki as an option for a friend who wants to learn Slovak, and I was somewhat disappointed by the recorded speech that goes along with the flashcards. The pronunciation is distinctly Russian, not Slovak (some of the letters are pronounced incorrectly, and the stress tends to end up on the wrong syllable), which makes this program fairly useless for learning to speak Slovak correctly. From what I observed, the written text is generally accurate, and the program itself seems to use a decent and fairly effective teaching method, so this review is not meant to be a statement against the Byki software in general; I just think the Slovak version is not worth the money if you care about getting the spoken language right.
I ended up getting the Colloquial Slovak book/CD instead, and although I've only listened to a little bit of that so far, the recordings there are done by actual native Slovak speakers.Byki Slovak Language Tutor Software & Audio Learning CD-ROM for Windows & Mac Overview
