The Verbal System of Biblical Aramaic (Studies in Biblical Literature) ReviewAs Aramaic is a dead language, it is difficult to understand the nuances of it's verbal system. As English speakers, we want to understand the Aramaic verbal system the way we understand the English system (or for biblical scholars, the way we understand the Greek system), but there is no reason to assume the two languages operate in the same way. Therefore, researchers like Shepherd develop new theories on how to understand the language. His theory does not work perfectly, but...it is very close. Perhaps some more research and thought on the apparent exceptions would further advance it. At the very least, It should be considered by all as a viable option. New students in Aramaic will have a hard time wading through this book, but hey, you need to progress in your understanding of the language somehow.
