Interlinear for the Rest of Us: The Reverse Interlinear for New Testament Word Studies ReviewThe quibble in Varner's comment about this work making everyone pretend they are Greek experts is directly addressed in the Preface of Mounce's book: "My prayer is also that you will not think you actually know Greek just because IRU parses the words. Learning a language is an art, one that takes a substantial commitment of time if it is to be done properly. But for those who are not able to spend the time, this text can help you to better understand the Word of God." And to that I say, "Amen."
The most important aid I receive from works such as this is precisely the overcoming of false assumptions that I KNOW "what the text means." All too often, a little digging - using works like Mounce's and Bruce Malina's reveals that my assumptions about the meaning of the plain (English) text on the page was in fact far from the mark.
