Matthew and Mark (Expositor's Bible Commentary, The) ReviewMy review doesn't get into the style or content of the commentaries. I'm rating the revision.
I bought this volume as an replacement/update to the earlier version of Matthew/Mark/Luke. I knew the new version would be in a different format and only Matthew/Mark. I mainly wanted Carson's Matthew. Unfortunately, aside for the page layout/font, the Carson's commentary is generally the same as the 1984 edition. Of course the bibliography had some additions and as well as some sections of the commentary (ie, 5:17). I was disappointed, not in Carson, but in Zondervan "revision".
The Mark commentary originally by Wessel and revised by Strauss seems to be a true update/revision. The bibliography and commentary reflects the use newer scholarship.
Just thought you might want to know. If you're looking for a two-in-one commentary, this one wouldn't be bad, but keep in mind Carson's work is about 25 years old.
