EuroTalk Interactive - Talk Now Learn Bengali ReviewAs soon as I started the software on my computer I knew I had made a mistake. When I listened to the vocabulary on my iPod it was confirmed without a doubt.
Cons:
You're not going to learn many words. About 100 by my count, plus maybe about 20 phrases.

You'll learn how to say a few dozen ENGLISH words with a Bengali accent. (Why did they think we needed to know how to say the word jacket or cola?!)
The video pronunciations are annoying and, in my opinion, racist. They have lily white speakers for the visuals while the actual voices are clearly from native Bengali speakers. They essentially dubbed the audio which makes the entire purpose of seeing their mouths move absolutely worthless - the lips frequently do not match the audio. What was the purpose in using the white actors (who look kind of imbecilic trying to mouth these words) instead of the real speakers? This really smacks of arrogance on the part of the company that made this software.
Some of the words presented aren't even accurate! I had a native Bengali speaker listen to this and she laughed. She said that people just don't talk like this. The words are either entirely too formal or they're made up. For example, they take an English word and then add the Bengali pronunciation for "s" in order to make the word plural. Bengalis don't write like that and they don't talk like that. If you use these words with Bengali speakers they will probably know what you're trying to say, but they'll think you're pretty silly in the way you're saying it.
Pros:
The software is good at getting you to learn those 100 or so words through quizzes.
It will work (somewhat) with your iPod.The earlier version of this software was available on Amazon and had countless negative reviews with many of the same complaints I've listed here. Several noted how absolutely silly it was to have so many English words as part of the package. They don't seem to have changed a thing in terms of content. They appear to have just tweaked the interface and improved compatibility with newer computers and with the iPod.
If you want to learn how to say the time of day and a handful of Bengali words then this will work for you. If you're looking to actually learn how to communicate then you'll have to look elsewhere. Unfortunately, there are very few products on the market for learning how to speak Bengali. It is one of the most spoken languages in the world (top ten), but you'd never know it by the lack of quantity and quality in the language learning tools available.EuroTalk Interactive - Talk Now Learn Bengali Overview
